Visit the sites at Olana made famous by Frederic Church’s paintings. Open to all media, demonstrations in pastel & oil, each class starts with a demonstration, individual help as needed, and ends with a group critique. Class meets on location at the site at 9am for a demo and a show of work by Church featuring the site. Painters work independently with one to one help as needed until noon, group critique at 12:30 class ends at 1pm. Tour of Olana and main house included with class. Limited to 15 painters in any media.
Following In The Footsteps of the Hudson River School
5 day workshop 9am-3pm daily Sept. 5-10th
Following in the Footsteps of the Hudson River School-Hike and paint at the iconic sites made famous through paintings by Cole, Church, Durand and the artists of the Hudson River School. Workshop involves easy-to- strenuous hikes to painting sites, then painting for three hours on site before hiking back. Take a week off from your daily life and discover why the Catskills inspired so many beautiful paintings! Open to all media, Intermediate and advanced artists, with lightweight gear, capable of 3 mile hikes in wilderness. Sites are part of the Hudson River School Art Trail, see paintings made on the sites, hear the history of the site, and try your hand at painting the view that inspired the masters. Pack a picnic lunch for group critique each class.
