Beginning Drawing with Shawn Dell Joyce
Based on Betty Edward’s “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” program, Joyce teaches the global skill of drawing in 6 basic component skills: sketching, shading, value, perspective, proportion and composition. If you can sign your name legibly, you can learn how to draw realistically! Perfect first art class, or workshop for artists who are “just getting back into it.” Teens and Adults,  Saturdays, 1-3pm, Jan. 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 $100 (materials included)

Beginning Drawing Part II with Shawn Dell Joyce
Work from exercises Da Vinci and Degas gave to their apprentices to learn how to mix color in pastel, watercolor, and colored pencil. Learn about color theory, and how to achieve color harmony, neutralize complements, and see colors as values. Work from old master’s paintings as well as imaginative drawing, and drawing from memory.  Saturdays, 1-3pm, Mar. 14, 21, 28, Apr. 4, 11, 18.

Pastel Studio with Shawn Dell Joyce
Learn pastel tips and techniques from an accomplished award-winning pastelist. Each class features a compelling still life set up, and guidance from start to finish in making a pastel painting. Shawn demonstrates new techniques in classical realism, and offers materials for you to experiment with like pan pastels and palette knives. You will make a completed painting each session, and learn framing tips and watch a pastel framing demo on the 4th session. 
Ongoing Thursdays, 6:30-9pm $100 for four consecutive classes;

Pastel Techniques with Shawn Dell Joyce
Learn how to mix color on the paper, and apply color theory to pastels. Learn techniques for blending, how to create interesting effects using nontraditional materials, and experiment with different paper surfaces, and hardnesses of chalk pastels. An exciting and fast-paced workshop for beginners, and experienced artists who want to learn basic pastel techniques. Work from old master’s exercises, and still lifes. Beginners, advanced, teens and adults welcome.  Thursdays, 6:30-9pm, Apr. 2, 16, 23, 30, May 7 $120

Learn the secrets of the old masters in how to draw accurately, in proportion, with proper perspective, shading and make your drawings look real!

Painting like the Masters with Shawn Dell Joyce
Children learn how to paint like the old masters by working from their paintings! Work from Picasso’s “Cubist” paintings, Jackson Pollack and “action painting,” Mark Rothko’s “Color Field” Paintings, and Mary Cassatt’s “Impressionist” paintings. A different artist each week! Learn about art history as well as painting techniques.

Paint like the old Masters Part II with Shawn Dell Joyce
Children learn to paint Hudson River School landscapes by Church and Cole, Barbizon School landscapes, Van Gogh’s landscapes, and abstract landscapes. A different landscape by a different artist each day!

Scooby Doo’s Art Adventure!
Fri. Feb. 13 or Mar. 27 9am-3:15pm $60

A mad-cap cartooning adventure! Learn to draw Scooby and the Gang, make puppets and put on a puppet show, then dress up like the characters and film a movie of you solving a real mystery! Unmask the art bandit that sneaks into the Wallkill River School and leaves a trail of clues! Learn to make real Scooby snacks in the kitchen, and have Shaggy’s favorite lunch-PIZZA!

9-10:30 Learn to draw Scooby and the gang with cartoonist Gene Bove

10:30-11 Make Scooby snacks in the kitchen with Shawn Dell Joyce, then watch a Scooby Adventure on our HUGE screen projector!

11-12:30 Make Scooby and the gang puppets and put on a puppet show

12:30 Shaggy’s Pizza Party!

1-3pm Dress up as your favorite Scooby character and star in your own movie solving a real-live caper involving a masked art thief! Everyone gets a copy of the finished movie!
