These paintings were inspired by women's spirituality as it is expressed through the art of dance. Women often dance for each other, especially in Middle Eastern and African dance. It is a soul celebration, and uninhibitedness that is sadly lacking in Western Culture where women are portrayed as competing for male attention. These images are moments of sheer joy, communion with the divine, and friendship expressed through the medium of soft pastel. Motion is captured in swirling skirts and graceful limbs. If you look closely, you may notice a glimmer on the surface of the pastel. I used real gold dust as the highlights in most of the paintings.
